Hey guys correction: hey everyone … That's it. That's the small but meaningful change we invited people to take on for International Women's Day 2021. Because words shape the world we live in. They communicate power dynamics, create societal norms and structure the very framework we use to navigate life and all its opportunities.
When we avoid making small changes that feel inconsequential on a daily basis, we hinder bigger changes from actually happening. So the team I worked with at 72andSunny Amsterdam created a social film to encourage the use of more inclusive language. And we used the supporting social post copy to teach people how to program a suggested autocorrect for “guys” as a helpful, actionable reminder. Go to Settings > Keyboard > Text if you’re interested.
We also created a social template for people to share how they’re challenging this daily norm. They simply handwrite in their more inclusive replacement word.
